Murdoch Square Delivers Vibrant New Centre For The Southern Metropolitan Area
Hesperia, Aegis Health and Western Australian Minister for Health and Mental Health the Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson have formally opened mixed-use and healthcare destination, Murdoch Square.
Spanning 1.2ha, the $450 million Murdoch Square is home to Western Australia’s first purpose-built Medihotel and Courtyard by Marriott hotel, a private hospital, aged-care facility, childcare centre and a range of commercial and retail outlets that support those living and working in the precinct.
Hesperia and Aegis Health have delivered on their vision to create a modern town centre. Murdoch Square’s five distinct buildings form a destination for the local community, visitors, patients, and healthcare workers to access and enjoy, while providing the first residential options within the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct.
Hesperia Managing Director Ben Lisle said today’s opening culminated eight years of complex planning and construction to align with the State’s current and future healthcare needs.
“We set out to transform this landmark site into a vibrant, mixed-use destination that would create a civic heart for Murdoch. The integration of five buildings into a single construction phase makes Murdoch Square one of the most complex projects undertaken in Perth in the past decade,” Mr Lisle said.
“The result is a world-class development and destination for Western Australia. I am exceptionally proud of the Hesperia team and everyone who has worked on Murdoch Square. The complexity and many other challenges we faced and overcame along the way, including the Covid-19 period, showcases the collective, incredible efforts of many.”
“We believe that within a decade this area will be one of the busiest and most economically significant areas of Perth. It will support, service and employ thousands of people daily.”
Murdoch Square is the first stage in the State Government’s plan to transform the area surrounding Fiona Stanley Hospital into the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, a major health and research destination.
Designed by Hassell, Murdoch Square is the first project completed by Hesperia in the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, with three Development Applications now approved for neighbouring projects including additional medical facilities, significant social and affordable housing, and commercial development.
Each project will significantly contribute to assisting the WA Government in transforming the area and adding further amenities to the specialised health precinct.
