Hesperia and Aegis Health are delighted to announce that Murdoch Square has achieved a 5 Star Green Star – Design & As Built v1.2 certification from the Green Building Council of Australia, recognising the precinct as an Australian Excellence benchmark for sustainable development. Murdoch Square is one of the few mixed-use developments in WA to receive this certification.

The certification reflects years of planning, collaboration and commitment from the broader team, contractors, consultants and partners who worked together to embed sustainability into every stage of the development.

As Western Australia’s newest mixed-use healthcare precinct, Murdoch Square was designed to deliver long-term environmental, social and economic value for its occupants, visitors and the wider community. Murdoch Square stitches together healthcare, hospitality, aged care, childcare, commercial and residential uses within a highly connected, transit-oriented destination in the heart of Murdoch.

Achieving a 5 Star Green Star rating required a significant body of work across all aspects of the project, from design and construction through to operational performance and occupant wellbeing. The process involved extensive documentation, independent assessment and rigorous benchmarking against national sustainability standards.

Key sustainability initiatives include high-performance façades and building systems, an extensively landscaped podium featuring public art installations, the use of certified low-toxicity materials, and strong connectivity to public transport. End-of-trip facilities and provision of EV chargers support active and low carbon transport. A net zero carbon construction process involved low carbon materials and efficient design, and supporting conservation and nature restoration projects to offset the remaining emissions.

Murdoch Square is also managed as an embedded network by Hesperia’s renewable energy provider, Enpowered. The development is powered by rooftop solar PV systems supplemented by a renewable electricity Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for grid-supplied electricity, resulting in a 100% renewable electricity supply (on Towers A, B & C).
