Specialists: Westside Gastroenterology / Dr. Shanela Sooben

Shanela is a locally trained gastroenterologist, having worked in Western Australia (WA) for 8 years as a medical practitioner and the last 4 years in the field of gastroenterology.

In addition to being a general gastroenterologist, she did her subspecialty training in the area of inflammatory bowel disease.

Shanela studied medicine at the University of Notre Dame in WA, graduating with distinction. She completed her advanced gastroenterology training in WA. Shanela has a keen interest in all aspects of general gastroenterology including reflux disease, irritable bowel disease, bowel cancer screening, coeliac disease and eosinophilic oesophagitis as well as inflammatory bowel disease. She is actively involved in research and international conference presentations both in general gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disease.

Shanela is fluent in both English and French.
