Dr Mike Somers is an experienced Occupational and Environmental Physician with a strong background in clinical medicine, occupational health, and medicolegal assessments. He graduated with Honours in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Western Australia in 2011 and has since developed a comprehensive understanding of both acute and chronic medical conditions impacting work capacity.

Following his graduation, Dr Somers completed rotations across Perth’s major teaching hospitals, gaining clinical experience in specialties including Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Psychiatry, General Surgery, and General Medicine. In 2016, Dr Somers transitioned into Occupational Medicine, and has since obtained formal specialist qualification (FAFOEM); he has provided services across diverse sectors including mining, rail, oil and gas, healthcare, aged care, and transportation delivering expertise in Pre-Employment and Periodic Medicals, Injury Management and Return to Work Planning, Fitness for Duty and Complex Work Capacity Assessments, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Onsite Health Consulting, Health Surveillance and Health Promotion. Dr Somers is an Authorised Health Practitioner (AHP) with the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) and holds OEUK medical accreditation. His postgraduate qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

Known for his balanced and evidence-based opinions, Dr Somers has a particular interest in complex fitness for duty evaluations. He believes strongly in the health benefits of meaningful and sustained employment and is committed to supporting both workers and employers in achieving optimal outcomes.
